Well, I’ve decided it’s time to get down to business. There are several writing events happening this year, which also means there are several opportunities to network. I’ve got my plan laid out! First up, I’m getting my submission ready for the Genesis Contest. This is a contest for unpublished writers through ACFW. If I’m a finalist, I will definitely have to find a way to make it to the fall conference in Dallas! I went last year to the one in St. Louis. It was amazing! There were so many wonderful people there. Dallas is a little farther away, but I think the plane ticket would definitely be worth it. Also, I will be attending the SCBWI retreat on May 18-19 (I think those are the dates but I need to double check) at McCormick’s Creek. That is going to be a great opportunity to start meeting the editors and agents associated exclusively with children’s books. I have big plans for this conference. Of course, I will be promoting Crystal Clear, but I will also have two board books and the first book in my picture book series. Lots to promote! Then of course, there is my alumni retreat at Seton Hill. Another great opportunity to meet editors and agents as well as catch up with old friends. I can’t wait; it’s going to be a great year!

Just a quick update on my reading materials–I’m in the middle of two books. The first is an amazing fairy tale by my friend Pam. She is one of the most talented writers I have ever met, and she is an expert in fairy tales. Her writing is absolutely amazing; I know it won’t be long before she is published! This story is great; I can’t put it down! I am also reading Many Genres One Craft which is an anthology of articles over a variety of writing topics edited by a few of the beloved faculty members of my alma mater, Seton Hill University. This is a great text to own if you are a writer. It covers a myriad of writing topics–from word choice to POV to character-driven vs. plot-driven articles. A great read, and one you will return to over and over. I highly recommend it!
